  • Buster Keaton’s "The General" featuring Blue Dahlia
    Silent Film with Musical accompanyment, USA, 1927, 75 minutes

    Keaton stars as a Confederate railroad engineer whose two loves — his girl and his engine — are stolen by the Union. Blue Dahlia, a world music quartet from Kalamazoo, plays its score to the silent film, followed by a concert. Check out www.bluedahlia.com. Sponsored by David and Audrey Lewis.   

     

  • Refusing to Be Enemies
    Documentary, USA, 2006, 58 minutes

    Six Jewish women and six Arab women living in Ann Arbor struggle to overcome their cultural prejudices, fears and anger. Filmmaker Laurie White, a native of Flint, will attend to talk about the documentary. White also worked as a producer on "Roger and Me" and "Come Unto Me: The Tyree Guyton Story." Sponsored by Health Plus of Michigan.

    Three women return home to Kalamazoo and realize that their unfulfilled goals will soon be revealed when a time capsule is opened at their impending 10-year high school reunion.

  • Conviction
    Documentary, USA, 2006, 48 minutes

    In October 2002, three Dominican nuns cut a chain link fence and entered a Minuteman III missile site in Colorado to stage a nonviolent protest against weapons of mass destruction — and ended up convicted of sabotage by the U.S. Department of Justice and serving time in federal prison. Two of the nuns — Ardeth Platt, a former Saginaw City Council member, and Carol Gilbert, also from Saginaw — will attend. Sponsored by Janet I. Martineau.   

     

  • New Reformation Jazz Ensemble
    Documentary, USA, 2007, 29 minutes

    A group of jazz music lovers accompanied Saginaw’s seven-member New Reformation Band on its bus concert tour through “America’s Heartland” ( St. Louis and Hannibal in Missouri; Decatur in Illinois and Indianapolis in Indiana). Filmmaker Ricardo Verdoni and band member Dave Oppermann will attend. Sponsored by Saginaw Bay Underwriters.   

     

  • Crazy or What: A Lighthearted Look at the Nature of Obsession
    Documentary, USA, 2007, 60 minutes

    Central Michigan University filmmaker/professor Kevin Corbett made this personal documentary when friends told him he was crazy to take a 100-mile bike ride. The films follows him as he trains and contains interviews with other people and their obsessions. Corbett will attend.   

     

  • Murderball
    Documentary, USA, 2005, 60 minutes

    The Americans battle the Canadians for world supremacy in the Paralympic game of wheelchair rugby. Members of the Saginaw Wheelchair Rugby Club will lead a panel discussion following the documentary.   

     

  • Two-Fisted Law
    Western, USA, 1932, 64 minutes

    Saginaw’s own cowboy actor Tim McCoy stars in a ranch skullduggery also featuring a young John Wayne.   

     

  • Margin of Victory
    Documentary, USA, 2007, 60 minutes

    This Delta Public Broadcasting documentary shows the Michigan efforts at home during World War II. Producer Bob Przybylski leads a discussion following.   

     

  • Three Wishes
    Drama, USA, 2006, 80 minutes

    Two young people come into possession of a mystical artifact that has the power to alter fate by granting three wishes. Trouble is those wishes don’t work out as expected. Based on the W.W. Jacobs short story "The Monkey’s Paw." Saginaw producer/director Mike Arnold will attend.

    Between 1968 and 1972, nine American Apollo spacecraft and 12 men journeyed to the moon. This documentary brings them all together for the first and perhaps last time, with footage never before seen. Sundance winner.   

     

  • Two Days in April
    Documentary, USA, 2006, 90 minutes

    The cameras watch as four potential NFL draftees pursue their dream of playing professional football amid physical and mental challenges. The film also looks at the players, scouts and coaches involved along the way. Sponsored by Pumford Construction   

     

  • War Dance
    Documentary, USA, 2007, 105 minutes

    Students at a Ugandan school embark on a long journey to the Kampala Music Festival to compete in music and dance as creativity overcomes the reality of war. Sponsored by Monday at 7 Book Club.   

     

  • Praying With Lior
    Documentary, USA, 2008, 97 minutes

    Lior Liebling has Down syndrome and has spent his entire life praying with utter abandon. Is he a “spiritual genius” as many see him or a mere nuisance as seen by others? The story culminates in his Bar Mitzvah. “Lior” has won the audience award at numerous Jewish film festivals. Sponsored by the Polasky Foundation

    Set inside a medical center, four coma survivors work to regain their abilities as the film explores the mysteries of the injured brain and its ability to heal.

    Girls 8 to 18, from all over the nation, attend a rock and roll camp just for girls — forming bands, writing songs and playing a gig all within one week. Sponsored by Barbara Mahar Lincoln

    You are what you eat in a documentary centering on Zen master Edward Espe Brown and his quest to unite Buddhism and cooking.

    The music of top Gypsy performers is interwoven with real life tales of their home life and background. Shot on tour in Europe.   

     

  • 14 Women
    Documentary, USA, 2007, 79 minutes

    A record 14 women were elected to the 109th Congress (2004-2006) and a filmmaker captures their struggle to balance workloads with family, friends and staff.
